ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND AUTOMATED FUNCTIONS
Truckstop uses artificial intelligence, machine learning, large language models, voice processing, and other automated technologies (collectively, “AI Functions”) across our Services, including through our websites, mobile applications, browser extensions, and other software. This section describes how AI Functions interact with personal data and the rights available to you.
- AI-Powered Features. Our Services may include AI-powered features such as virtual assistants and chatbots, load matching and recommendation engines, fraud detection and risk-scoring tools, carrier and broker vetting and information tools, browser-based assistants that operate while you browse third-party or Truckstop-related web pages, and other AI-assisted features we may introduce over time. The specific features available depend on the Services you use. We will update this Policy or provide additional notice when we introduce new AI features that materially affect how we process your personal data.
- Data Used by AI Functions. AI Functions in our Services may process personal data including account and profile information, usage and activity data, transaction records, communications data, location data, third-party data incorporated into the platform, data collected through browser extensions or other software while you use the Services, and inferences and scores we or our service providers generate. We do not use sensitive personal data categories (as defined under applicable law) to train AI Functions except where permitted by applicable law.
- AI Training and Product Improvement. We may use personal data, including data collected through your interactions with AI-powered features and through browser extensions and other software we provide, to train, evaluate, test, and improve our AI Functions and Services, subject to applicable law. We may also use aggregated, de-identified, or anonymized data derived from personal data for AI model development, benchmarking, and analytics without restriction. Where required by applicable law, we will provide notice or obtain consent before using personal data for AI training purposes.
- Automated Decision-Making. Some AI Functions may produce outputs that have legal or similarly significant effects on you, such as fraud flags, risk scores, or eligibility determinations (“Automated Decisions”). Where required by applicable law (including Colorado SB 189, effective January 1, 2027, and similar state automated decision-making disclosure laws), we will provide notice of Automated Decisions and honor rights to request human review. To request human review of an Automated Decision affecting you, contact [email protected] with the subject line “Automated Decision Review Request.”
- AI Disclosure Requirements. Where required by applicable law, we will disclose when you are interacting with an AI-powered feature rather than a human. Our AI-powered features do not make final decisions on freight transactions, rates, or carrier or broker relationships; they provide information and recommendations to assist human decision-makers. Interactions with AI-powered features, including through browser extensions and other software, may be recorded and used for quality assurance, compliance, safety, and Service improvement, subject to applicable consent requirements.
- Third-Party AI Services. Some AI features are powered by third-party AI providers. Where such providers process personal data on our behalf, they do so as service providers under written agreements that restrict their use of your data to providing services to Truckstop. We do not authorize third-party AI providers to use your personal data to train their own foundation models or for their own independent commercial purposes.
- Browser Extensions and Third-Party Website Interaction. Our browser extensions and other downloadable software may operate while you visit third-party websites that are not operated by Truckstop. When the software is active on a third-party website, it may read, extract, or interact with content displayed on that page to provide its features. Truckstop is not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party websites. The data collected from third-party web pages through our software is governed by this Policy and used as described herein.
- Biometric Data Notice. This section constitutes Truckstop’s publicly available written policy regarding biometric data, as required by the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA, 740 ILCS 14) and similar state biometric privacy laws including Texas’s Capture or Use of Biometric Identifier Act (CUBI Act).
- What we collect. Certain AI-powered features within our Services, including voice-enabled features, may collect or generate biometric identifiers or biometric information, including voiceprints derived from voice recordings. Biometric data is not collected through all Services; it is only collected where voice or biometric functionality is an active feature of the specific Service you use.
- Purpose. We collect biometric data solely to provide, operate, and improve the AI-powered features you use. We do not sell, lease, trade, or otherwise profit from biometric data.
- Consent. Where required by applicable law (including BIPA), we will obtain your written consent before collecting biometric identifiers or biometric information. By enabling a voice-powered or biometric feature, you provide consent to the collection and processing of any biometric data generated by that feature, subject to applicable law.
- Retention and destruction. We retain biometric data no longer than the earlier of: (a) the purpose for which it was collected is fulfilled; or (b) three (3) years after your last interaction with the applicable Service. Within one (1) year after the applicable retention period expires, biometric data will be permanently destroyed using a method that renders it unrecoverable.
- Third-party access. Biometric data may be processed by our service providers under written agreements that restrict use to providing services to Truckstop. We do not disclose biometric data to third parties except as required by applicable law, with your consent, or to our service providers as described above.
